Sexually transmitted diseases

Most people don't ask their partners about their sexual health and this could affect you forever.

We would like to talk to you about the stigma surrounding getting screened for STDs.

Most people don't want to be infected with a STD but most people don't even know if they have them.

Half of the sexually active individuals will get a STD by the age of 25,

people that become infected not always experience symptoms,  yet there is still shame and embarrassment when it comes to getting tested. Most Sexually Transmitted Diseases are curable and others will stay with you for life.

Of these 8 infections,

4 are currently curable: syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia and trichomoniasis.

The other 4 are incurable and viral: hepatitis B, herpes simplex virus, HIV and Human papillomavirus (HPV)

Getting stronger and healthy also means to take control of your sexual health.

Are you at risk?

If your answer is yes to one of the following questions, is highly recommended to get tested for STDs at least once a year.

Are you sexually active?

Do you have more than one partners?

Do you have anonymous partners? Hook-ups?

Are you having sex while under the influence of drugs or alcohol which can lower your inhibitions and result in greater sexual risk-taking?

Are you aware of the sexual history of the person you are intimate with?

What's the big deal about STDs anyway?

Untreated/ undetected STDs can leave a person more vulnerable to contract HIV and HPV

Untreated/undetected STDs can cause infertility

Treatment/detection/screening will lower the risk of spreading STDs to others.
